Advancing Reconciliation Through Action

Local Government Procurement (LGP) has rolled out its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) — an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to reconciliation and to creating meaningful outcomes for First Nations peoples.

Our RAP sets out practical actions to build respectful relationships, support economic participation and embed reconciliation into everyday business practice. It reflects LGP’s belief that reconciliation must be demonstrated through consistent, accountable action.

Working closely with councils across New South Wales, LGP recognises the role procurement plays in shaping social, economic and community outcomes. That’s why the RAP is aligned with our core business — using procurement as a lever for positive and lasting change.

Embedding Reconciliation into Procurement

At the heart of LGP’s RAP is a focus on social procurement and supplier diversity. By embedding reconciliation principles into procurement

decision-making, we’re supporting greater opportunities for First Nations Peoples and contributing to stronger, more inclusive supply chains.

This work complements LGP’s First Nations Procurement Scheme (FNPS), which provides councils with compliant, transparent pathways to engage Aboriginal businesses. Together, the RAP and FNPS help councils deliver measurable outcomes against social procurement, ESG and sustainability objectives, while continuing to meet governance and value-for-money requirements.

This integrated approach reinforces procurement as a tool not only for efficiency and compliance, but also for economic participation, community benefit and long-term impact.

Turning Commitment into Tangible Action

As part of the RAP rollout, LGP has introduced First Nations lanyards — a simple but purposeful initiative that brings reconciliation principles into day-to-day practice.

While modest in scale, the initiative is deliberate. It helps make reconciliation visible across the organisation and serves as a reminder that meaningful change is built through consistent, values-led actions.

Initiatives like this also help normalise social procurement and encourage conversations about how procurement decisions can be better aligned with social impact.

Supporting Councils and Sector Leadership

LGP’s RAP strengthens our role as a trusted partner to local government. By aligning reconciliation with procurement strategy, we’re supporting councils to deliver community benefits while also aligning with broader corporate social responsibility goals.

Through leadership, collaboration and knowledge-sharing, LGP will continue working alongside councils, suppliers and sector partners to promote best practice, build capability and support continuous improvement.

An Ongoing Commitment

Reconciliation is a journey, not a destination.

The rollout of LGP’s RAP reflects a commitment to learning, accountability, and partnership. We’ll continue listening, reflecting and strengthening our approach over time, ensuring reconciliation remains embedded in how we work and how we support the sector.

LGP looks forward to continuing this journey with councils and partners across New South Wales, delivering procurement outcomes that create lasting social value for communities.
