WV Tech: Helping Councils Create Community Impact and Tackle Changing Data Security Challenges

The data security landscape is evolving at an unprecedented rate. Councils are under constant pressure to comply with new requirements, often without the time, money or people to spare. So how can councils protect sensitive information, stay compliant and make a positive impact?

WV Tech works with government departments at every level, from local councils to federal agencies. Through years of experience working closely with our diverse clients, we have identified three common challenges and their solutions.

Data Sanitisation Is Not Always Secure

Many councils trust their IT Asset Disposal partners to remove data from retired devices completely. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. We have seen sensitive information recovered from supposedly wiped hard drives, some even resold online. This creates a serious security risk and can damage trust and reputation if data falls into the wrong hands.

Our solution is rigorous. We use proven processes for thorough data sanitisation and, when required, physical destruction of assets to ensure nothing is recoverable.

Transparency Builds Trust

Too often, councils receive minimal reporting from IT Asset Disposal providers, leaving them unsure of what has happened to their devices. WV Tech takes a different approach. We provide detailed, timely reports that track each asset’s journey through our facilities.

As a NAID AAA certified business with PSPF endorsements for Top Secret Data Destruction, our facilities are independently audited at random. We also hold certifications in ISO 9001, 14001, 27001, AS/NZS 4801 and AS/NZS 5377 eWaste Management. With NV2 cleared staff and GPS-tracked vehicles available, we take data security extremely seriously.

Beyond compliance, we also provide social impact and environmental reports, so councils can see the wider positive outcomes of working with us.

Meeting Sustainability and Social Procurement Goals

Australians want meaningful action on climate change and Closing the Gap. For councils, meeting those expectations can be challenging without the right partners. WV Tech makes it easier.

As an Indigenous social enterprise, we provide employment and training opportunities for Indigenous Australians every day. Through our parent organisation, Worldview Foundation, we have supported more than 170 at-risk Indigenous young people with cultural mentoring, life skills and pathways to sustainable employment.

On sustainability, we are constantly innovating to recover more reusable materials from e-waste, reduce landfill and give devices a second life. Our work has been recognised on the Australian Financial Review Sustainability Leaders List and we are proud winners of Supply Nation’s Indigenous Exporter of the Year Award.
