The Essentials of Project Management 

Strong project management supports clear objectives, defined scope, realistic scheduling, and effective risk and stakeholder management. In local government, these disciplines are particularly important given the need for transparency and accountability and successful delivery of projects. 

This practical one‑day course introduces a structured approach to project management, suitable for minor projects or components of larger initiatives. Through hands-on activities and real‑world case studies, participants will learn how to: 

  • establish project parameters and objectives  

  • develop and implement project plans  

  • monitor progress, manage risks and stakeholders  

  • complete and review projects, capturing lessons learned for future application

Procurement and Contracting in Local Government - The Essentials 

Effective procurement and contracting management are fundamental to achieving value for money, ensuring compliance, and maintaining public trust. This one‑day workshop provides participants with a solid foundation in key procurement and contracting principles as they apply in a local government context. 

The course is suitable for staff involved in procurement activities and/or contract administration and covers the essentials through two focused modules: 

  • Module1: Procurement in Local Government: The Essentials 

  • Module 2: Contracting in Local Government: The Essentials 

Participants will gain a practical understanding of procurement processes, governance expectations and contract lifecycle management relevant to councils.
