As Australia's first grant of its kind, LGP's Capability Grant Fund supports new procurement initiatives and professional development for NSW councils. Enhance processes, build skills, and deliver community value backed by LGP's expertise.

2026 Applications Now Open
Strengthen Your Procurement Capability
Following the success of last year's round where we distributed over $150,000 in funding, LGP is proud to commit more than $300,000 through the Capability Grant Fund in 2026.
This initiative is open to all NSW councils, Regional Organisations of Councils (ROCs), Joint Organisations (JOs), Aboriginal Land Councils, and County Councils.
Applications close at 5pm, 15 May 2026.

Applying for Funding
Organisations can submit applications for funding between $5,000 and $30,000 to support new procurement projects that must be completed within a 12-month period. Ongoing or previously completed initiatives are not eligible for funding.
We're seeking proposals that align with one or more of these target areas:
Process Improvement
Procurement Resource Development
Technology
Professional Development
Other relevant areas (such as disaster recovery, First Nations procurement, or SME support)
Case Studies

How Warren Shire Council Strengthened Ethical Procurement and Modern Slavery Risk Management
With support from the LGP Capability Grant Fund FY25, Warren Shire Council has strengthened their approach to ethical procurement through the successful delivery of its Building Capacity to Manage Modern Slavery Risks in Procurement initiative.

How Coonamble Shire Council Utilised LGP’s $25,000 Grant
With $25K from the LGP Capability Grant Fund, Coonamble Shire Council delivered procurement lifecycle and advanced contracting training to 29 staff, developed custom templates, and built self-reliant procurement capability, reducing consultant dependency.

How Projects are Evaluated
All submissions will undergo a qualitative assessment by LGP’s review panel.
Key criteria to be considered:
Demonstrated need
Expected benefits/outcomes
Delivery capability (internal/external)
Likelihood of success
Alignment with Office of Local Government, NSW Audit Office, or ICAC recommendations prioritised.
