Modern Slavery Survivor Advocate
For the last seven years, Moe Turaga has been telling his powerful personal story of modern slavery in Australia to advocate for responsible business practices and modern slavery prevention.
Moe first shared his story at the parliamentary inquiry that led to Australia’s Modern Slavery Act. Since then, he has become a key voice for survivors in conversations about Australia’s modern slavery response.
In 2024, he received a commendation from the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner for Achievement in Fostering Responsible Business Practices and Changing the Narrative in recognition of his work and participation on the Commissioner’s Advisory Panel.
Moe’s is a Member, Australian Government’s Survivor Advisory Council and the Domus 8.7 Remediation Service Advisory Committee where he ensures a best practice grievance mechanism and a trauma-informed responses to workers.
He is actively engaged with at-risk workers in horticulture, meat processing, hospitality and aged care including workers on the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme.
