From the CEO’s Desk

I’m pleased to announce that Phill Scott has been voted on to the World Commerce and Contracting Association (WorldCC) Council.

Whilst Phill will continue in his role as Chief Procurement Officer here at LGP, this is a wonderful opportunity for local government to be represented and to influence the development of procurement and commerce at a new level, both in Australia and internationally.

The Council is structured to be representative of WorldCC membership and provide balanced regional, industry and subject matter representation. Phill’s role is that of Advocate and Council Member representing Industry, Public Sector and Government.

Few of you will be aware that Phill has already been involved in mentoring a team, participating in an international “Leaders of the Virtual Future” challenge, and later this year he will be a judge in the Innovation & Excellence Awards 2022 APAC.

Going forward, he will share his knowledge by participating in various events, writing articles, providing mentorship and giving back to the procurement community. I know that Phill is very appreciative to undertake this additional new role and all at LGP wish him well.

Last month I shared the challenges and changes in the energy sector severely impacting councils. Since that time, we have had a number of councils reach out to advise their energy provider is making changes which is leaving them in a vulnerable and uncertain position. If your council is uncertain about how to sure up its’ energy costs and supply, please reach out to your Business Development Manager and we can help you, as we have done with others these past few weeks.

While I am on Business Development Managers, for those in our Southern Region, we have your new Business Development Manager. John Pennock will start with LGP at the end of July. John has over 20 years experience in managing customer relationships, which includes the public sector and NSW councils.

I have enjoyed being the stand-in Business Development Manager for the Southern Region. Being out on the road meeting with over 20 different councils, ROCs and JOs certainly helps me in my role gain an up-close perspective on current and future challenges for councils. It has also helped me see how LGP can strategically shift to meet these future sector needs – energy sourcing, modern slavery, buying from local suppliers, recruitment & resourcing.

Your first opportunity to meet John will be our next LGP Network Meeting in Canberra, on Thursday 28th July, at the QT Hotel. We already have almost 20 people registered to attend and would love to reach our 50 person capacity. Then again at the Sydney Network Meetings, with the Procurement edition on Wednesday 3rd of August, and the Engineers event on Thursday 4th August at the Grace Hotel.

Incredibly, the Sydney Network Meetings are almost booked out.

We are now taking registrations for the LGP Annual Conference “2030 – How will you Measure Up”. This year we explore what the world will look like in 8 years’ time, and to be ready, what do we need to be doing now in terms of capability, infrastructure and sustainability.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
