Public Courses

LGP offers a range of interactive and best practice modules in Procurement and Contract Management. It is designed specifically for the local government sector, covering seven critical areas of procurement and contract management. These modules are delivered by knowledgeable trainers with hands-on experience in local government.  The contents, case studies and activities are tailored with practical examples to maximise knowledge transfer. These public courses also provide the participants with the opportunity to share and learn from their experiences and network with peers.

Virtual classroom

To meet the virtual classroom need of our Regional and Rural clients, we are pleased to introduce GoToTraining, an added facet to LGP training. 

This technology allows people from any geographic location, the opportunity to remotely attend the courses conducted at our office in Sydney.  The audio/video options enables the attendees to interact with the trainer, view trainer’s presentations, ask questions, take part in the discussions, and get access to the other training resources. These happen seamlessly in a real-time environment, giving a physical classroom experience.
 
GoToTraining is now available for all our accredited and other public courses. This new online feature will enable training cost reduction and minimise time spent away from home.

Regional and or on-site delivery

We have the capabilities to deliver all these training modules in a regional location and or on-site. This is a more cost efficient proposition and is available on request and subject to sufficient demand.

Spend Analysis for Savings, Efficiencies, Compliance and Collaboration

Spend Analysis for Savings, Efficiencies, Compliance and Collaboration is a full day course that provides the participants with the ability to look for efficiencies, savings and increase compliance. It covers internal analysis, analysis of external factors  such as economic development and how to drive fact based procurement and contract management decisions.

Advanced Contract Management

Advanced Contract Management is a two day course designed to advance the skills in contract management.  This course is suitable for the individuals managing high risk, complex contracts or those wishing to learn more in this space.  A large portion of value is extracted (or lost) post contract award. In this course, the participants will learn how to manage risk, increase innovation, reduce waste and increase efficiency.

Advanced Negotiation Skills (Accredited Course)

This course is targeted for anyone interested in developing and enhancing their negotiation skills and learn the strategies to negotiate effectively. Offered in an interactive workshop format,  this course will teach you techniques and skills to negotiate. If you are interested in learning how to effectively engage with the key stakeholders, you may choose to attend the third day of the workshop as well.

  • Understand what you want out of the negotiation;
  • Understand what you can reasonably expect as a negotiated outcome;
  • Determine what you are willing to given up;
  • Understand the pitfalls of failing to recognise the other party's strengths and weaknesses;
  • Have sufficient skills to overcome objections;
  • Know how to close the deal;

Supplier Tender Training 

Supplier Tender Training covers the basic principles, processes and best practices in tender writing for local government. The objective of this course is to provide insights about public sector procurement from the buyer’s perspective as to what is required, how the proposals are considered and the tender evaluation process.The experienced trainers assist the participants to develop skills and confidence in bid writing.

ISO 20400 Training for Senior Management

ISO 20400 Training is a full day course designed to provide participants with an understanding of ISO 20400 on sustainable procurement and how it can be used in their own context and professional role. This course covers how to analyse a council's current sustainable procurement framework, identify drivers for sustainable procurement and define a stainable procurement strategy and program of work that is tailored to your current council's context. This course is targeted at:  procurement management, management staff in charge of environmental, social and economic issues, management in finance, legal, HR, engineers and operations.
